It’s that atmosphere that makes all the difference in the world. When they bring veterans together it creates a peacefulness to each of us. Though many of the veterans may not know each other, they all have a common ground of the defense of our nation. This creates bonds and friendships which will last a lifetime! I was fortunate enough to be chosen to take part in the 6th Annual SSG Christopher Birdwell Memorial Honker Down for Wounded Veterans event and I am truly honored! These guys really believe in what they are doing, and I do too! I have never felt so welcomed and comfortable in such a short amount of time as I did there. The hospitality was amazing! My favorite part of the event is the honesty and the sincerity of the individuals involved with this organization. The event was truly about “Us”, rather than the glamour shots and the publicity. This impressed me and spoke volumes for what these guys do for the community and as an organization. Huge thanks to everyone involved, the volunteers, the guides and the donors. HEX is highly recommended!

After a career spanning 22 years in the Army I really missed the camaraderie we experience while serving, especially on deployment.
I had a great time when I participated with HEX on a waterfowl hunt, but what really has made a difference to me is the opportunity they have given me to come back and volunteer on subsequent outings. It has been therapeutic for me to be able to help give back and the chance to spend a few weekends a year in hunting camp with people from different eras, different branches, even civilians that share the same passions I’ve got, it really has had a positive impact on my life. I am proud to be a part of Hero Expeditions.
